First steps with Alix 3D3 and 1D Board

I haven´t bought any new gadget since some time. Finally I got a new toy, the Alix 3D3 Board.
The 3D3 is an embedded linux system with various possibilities for usage in my flat. With buying of the board I want to evaluate its potential. At the moment I think about house automation or the operation as an media server with external usb harddrive or a webpage with home controlling features implemented.
There is even the possiblity (with an additional miniPCI network card) to use the Alix 3DS as a Router and Firewall.

Alix Webcam support with webcam-server

One of the first things I was dealing with is the webcam support by the Alix 3D3 Board. In fact you need to compile the modules by your own.

Lighttpd with PHP5-CGI and SQLite

For running various web-applications or controlling purposes I need a reliable webserver. I decided to use lighttpd (also known as "lighty") because of my minor requirements. I only need PHP and SQLite and therefore lighttpd is an excellent choice.
